11/21/11- Your Ad
My ad is for changing the way girls and women see themselves. It has a naked baby girl crawling on a bed smiling, pure and cute. With the question "Is this the happiest She"ll ever be about her appearance?" I found this ad in the DIVA magazine and at any-body.org. The target audience is women. I think to an extent yes, it was influenced by that I don't think that a man would put an ad like this in his magazine.
11/18/11- Elelments of an effective lay out
The tool that is used in this article is informative, yet questionable in regards to a good ad. I think that all of the elements are equally important but I feel that a couple of them like balance and proportion are the same thing, just like unity, everyone knows a paper of any kind needs to flow and be easy to understand. All of the elements apply to my ad it is very well balanced and informative, and yet has that sense of seriousness, and urgency.
11/16/11- Democracy of Goods
The tool that is used is even if you are on the lower end of the financial stability bar, you still deserve the finer things in life. It is used today because different companies are competing to make all product available to ever household. It applies to my add because everyone is worried about what they look like but no matter what the outside looks like we all the same things inside and we each deserve to be liked or loved for who we are not what we look like.
11/14/11- Advertising
The ad I am referring to here is the advertisement for the SkinID product. Its effective because it promise to give acne free, better pores, and softer skin. It does use a little humor with the host since she is a younger woman. It uses real people and real, serious situations. It is show cased well, showing you what u could have, and if definitely makes you want to order it, since there"s not a single person that is truly happy about their appearance.
On the other hand an ineffective ad, its not proven to work, it leaves me being a skeptic, although it would be nice to have that much energy at once, maybe then I can keep up with my kids.

10/26/11- Persuasive Essay Summary
Thesis: The World Wildlife Fund is the best preservation organization to contribute to.
Main arguments: How many organizations that you know of that allow you to see their expense account at a public level? Thee WWF doesn't only protect endangered species, but also conserve land and reduce the impact we all have had on the earth. Counter argument: How do you know what is legit or not?

10/19/11- Style
After reading that section of the book, I realized that all of them are important to some extent. But I have to be honest, I rarely use all of those every time I write. Write with nouns and verbs was a new own for me I wouldn't of guessed it but it makes since now. No breezy manner, was a bit confusing to me. Although I know I shouldn't include my opinion, I have a really hard time because I am always telling people whats on my mind. Standard to offbeat confused me a bit also.
10/14/11- Effective Argument
Martin Luther King is addressing everyone, in regards to racial conflicts, that still plague communities around the world. The tone of his letter is very informative, wise and calm. To some extent I think that the whole letter is effective, especially the way in which he combines the perfect amount of ethos, pathos and logos. Although there is a few places where maybe politically correct, question his intentions, whether ethical, political, social or personal. Logical fallacies are used throughout this letter such as the logos on pg 155 in the first paragraph and in the second paragraph on pg 163. Ethos are used on pg 155 2nd and third paragraphs and again on pg168 first full paragraph. Pathos are used on pg156 in the third paragraph and again on pg 165 the first paragraph. The counter argument is on pg 159 in the second paragraph. He uses all of the logical fallacies by intertwining them to make the letter informal yet personal. I can utilize this in my paper by being careful, with where I put them which will incline a better letter or argument.

Logical Fallacies for 10/12/11
Rationalization- The news does this all the time especially with celebrities, when they do something wrong, they only get a slap on the wrist but if it was a person like you or me, we would be in jail or something pleading our case, to a jury that already knows their verdict.
Either-or- Politicians and stock brokers use this a lot to get and grab your attention by telling you if you don t do this or that, then you will lose this or that, as a matter of fact, I think that a lot of people use this method, including, Realtors, home insurance, health insurance to an extent.
Slippery Slopes- Environmentalist, if you destroy the earth by not recycling, and littering, then it will lead to the end of the earth as we know it.

When your opinion matters 10/7/11
It was my first year in the RT program here at Washburn, and I was doing my clinicals, when I went to see a patient that I had been working with all week when i noticed that the Doctor or nurse had prescribed a breathing medication that she was allergic to, and when I took the matter to the nurse, she ignored me and told me that I was just a student, and I didn't know what I was talking about. After arguing with her for what felt like a lifetime, I still didn't make ant lee way, so I went to the Doctor in charge, and pointed out my findings and after verifying them, he praised me and told me I could work with him any time I felt like it. To get a praise like that in the health care field is pretty big, and it doesn't happen very often. I don't know what happened to the nurse but I do know the patient recovered and went home two weeks later. I hate to think what would of happened if I hadn't of spoken up, and this is one situation that I don't regret stepping up too, and trust me there is a lot of situations where I wished I would of spoken up, and went with my gut feeling.

Muddiest point for 10/5/11
The muddiest point for me was the simple task of finding a topic. I wouldn't change the assignment it is pretty self explaining. I thought that this assignment was an interesting one and I wish more of my instructors used more writing in their classes. It really challenged me and what i think about the way things are

Notaro Essay
I absolutely loved this essay called A Morsel from the Garden of Eden by Notaro. It grabs your attention in the very first sentence, which is pretty amazing to be able to do. The focus is incredile in this story, it really is right to the point, direct story. The charecters depicted seem real, like anyones grandparents, I'm sure, work at doing something for years and not willing or ready to give it up, and at some point in time having to ask their families and friends to help them do certain things that aren't that easy to do anymore. The sentence varity and the voices of the charecters really pop out at you saying "hey here I am read me first". This essay was easy to read, easy to follow, and really easy to relate to. The conclusion was great, a very happy note, that he wasn't hurt, and he paused to add intensity. I would reccomend anyone who likes comedy, suspense to read this very interesting essay.

"Once More to the Lake" by E.B. White essey
White definetly grabs your attention, and I'm sure that everyone has days in paradise so to speak. Making you remember the first time you went fishing. He does seem to focus on a significant event that was constant in his life, kind of growing with the lake in a way. His sensory details are great he made me remember about the time I caught my first fish, but thats a hole other story. the details were so easy to get and understand. A few parts of his use of dialogue , I had to reread because it didn't quite make sense like the last sentence of the essay. I connected on a very personal and peaceful way. The charecters desribed made it easy to follow the plot and the events that were happening. The conclusion was very confusing to me, like I stated before, I just didn't follow it, and I even read it like 5 times, maybe its just me? I don't know, another essay to read again in the future.

Sedaris
Sedaris does grab your attention, by the way he jumps right into the moment. He focuses on one event, and sticks with it throughout the essay. He describes the characters well, but doesn't use many sensory words, to describe things. Pieces of the dialogue are a bit confusing to me, and jumping from french to English and back again really took me for a turn.I think that everyone can connect with essay, we have all had teachers that aren't the easiest to get along with, and prove that you are worthy. Events, people, places, and things are well described and easy to follow. The conclusion is right on , although a couple of things mentioned I am dumbfounded by.

Sentence Variety
Revised Sam paragraph:
Sam needed some new boots and a shoe shine kit, so she got in her car and drove to the mall. After getting the things that she needed, she went the food court to get a burrito with onions and peppers on it. Then after eating, she saw a cute boy at the pretzel stand. As the boy looked at Sam she blushed. Then he walked over to her, so Sam said "Hi". The boy just wrinkled his nose, confused, Sam says" Hi" again, he gags and walks away. Sam shocked realizes she has bad breath, and she runs to the bathroom to cry. Then she puts on her new boots and shines them. Confidently Sam walks out of the bathroom, finds the boy and tells him "you need some manners", as she kicks him, with her new boots on. He falls to the ground, as Sam walks away and out of the mall.

Mechanics
Writing has always been something that I enjoyed doing. I considered myself to be not a bad or good writer kind of in between, untill i read the Mechanics part of the Struck and White book, its has a lot of good information in it, about how to word your writings. The mechanic that is my weakest would have to be the use of commas and run on sentences. My strong mechanic is an active voice, sometimes too active. :)

"College Pressures"
I have been in college for longer than I like to admit, I have faced all of those pressures, you discussed, and in some way am still suffering through them. It seems though that they all coincide with each other in some mysterious way, that is unknown, yet drawing you into them. Economic pressure, come on who isn't in crisis with their money situations. Peer pressure, we face it everyday, which path you choose is up to you. Self- induced pressure, we all do it, to the extent in which we apply it depends on us and the issues we are facing. Parental pressure, hmm that's a tough one... NOT, who doesn't always feel pressure from their parents, in some way or form, and if you don't please tell me your secret.

"University Days"
My dreadful, and fearful, "Universit Days" story happened when I was atteneding Allen College, when I was getting some prerequisites and electives out of the way before going to Washburn. It was College Algebra, and I will be the first to tell you that Math is NOT a strong subject for me. If its not the basics like adding or multiplying, you can forget it especially fractions. Like I always say "give me letters or numbers but never them together. Anyway, this being my second time trying to pass this class but with 2 different instructors, my second instructor, gave aus an assignment with fractions and equations, so I did them how I was taught, got my paper back and although I got an B, he took off points for not doing them his way the way he was teching us, I didnt see how it mattered how I got the answer as long as it was right, but ok then. I ended up withdrawling from his class, and taking it the following semester with a great instructor, who made sure I understood things before going on, and who passed me with an B+, to this day I dont think that there was a better math teacher there that could of helped me to pass College Algebra.
Phew, no more Math classes, Yay!!

Keeping a notebook
I like Didion, have tried to keep a notebook or diary, but for one reason or another have not kept up on it. I recall being maybe 12 years old, and my grandma gave me my first diary that you had to have a key to open and I remember her saying " no matter what kind of day you have or who is unpleasant towards you or if you are just upset with your parents, you can always tell someone your deepest, darkest, happiest or saddest secrets that no one can see, and that's this diary." Those words have stuck with me, even now that I am a mother myself. I remember keeping up with my diary even a few years after that, writing down everything that I could possibly think of. But now that I think about it maybe it was or is a little obsessive compulsive, or even dumb, but in a way i think we all long to keep a journal of some sort, to hold on to the small things that we feel will some day be lost, either due to age or whether we are just running out of room in our minds to store them, because it has filled up with everyday life like grocery lists or bills that are due or birthday parties that your kids are invited too. In one way or another we all write down little notes or reminders if you will that help get us through our lives. Now that i am older I find myself only keeping a notebook when I am really angry and frustrated. I wonder what that means?
